Shoshana Chapter

Once upon a time there were two small CHW chapters named Chai and Simcha.

After several years of working on fundraisers together the two chapters realized that doing these events required a lot of helping hands.

The Hadassah-WIZO Bazaar was the fundraiser that really brought their members together. Working at the large cafeteria on the upper floor of the old Automotive Building at the CNE was amazing and very exhausting. We took over this project from Beth Gan chapter. They gave us all their recipes for their famous cabbage rolls and contacts to get the other food needed for the many hungry shoppers. When the large cafeteria in the Automotive Building was no longer in use for us, we ran the famous Fabulous Finds auction until the last bazaar in 2007.

After several years of doing fundraisers together and getting to know each other we finally decided to amalgamate as one chapter.
We chose a new name for our chapter, Shoshana. The Toronto President at that time was Fran Sonshine. She installed the members and the chapter, now known as Shoshana Chapter. Fran gave each member a rose, not knowing at the time what our new chapter name would be. How appropriate since Shoshana is the Hebrew name for rose!

Over the years we have had a variety of fundraisers that have included mahj events, teas, fashion shows, interesting speakers and more.

Since the pandemic our latest events have been on Zoom. Even though they have not been in person they have still been successful, especially our most recent music programs with musicologist, Mike Daley.

We are a CHW chapter based in Thornhill and are still getting new members, all of whom are interested in supporting the goals of Canadian Hadassah-WIZO.
